Photos Albums People Synchronization

It's really annoying that my 'people' album does not sync with my iOS devices. I've stored everything in iCloud so I don't know why apple would chew up processing time analyzing my photos twice? (once on iOS once on Sierra)... Would be great if they fix this problem.

if you use iTunes Photo Sync instead of iCloud Photo Library, you can still sync people albums to your iPhone or iPad. The will be stored as separat albums "People from My Mac". iTunes Photo Sync will also sync smart albums, which you cannot sync with iCloud Photo Library.

Does anyone think Apple will 'fix' the fact that they do not sync 'People/Faces' between iOS and MacOS? I just spend a bunch of time defining People on my Mac (OS Sierra) and don't want to do it again on my iPhone.

Then sync the People albums to your iPhone using iTunes Photo sync and not iCloud Photo Library.

Or add keywords with the names of the persons to all photos in your Photos Library. The keywords do sync. It is hard to guess what Apple will do. It is a political decision and not a technical problem, as long as people are objecting to having their pictures with names assigned stored in iCloud.

once Photos has finished the scan for the faces of persons on all your devices with iOS 10 the persons should be syncing between the iOS devices that are using the same AppleID for iCloud. This is described in the user guide for iOS 10. The Photos help for Photos on Sierra has not yet been published, so we cannot say anything about the Persons syncing with Photos on a Mac yet.

With the currently released software there is no sync of face albums between IOS devices and the Mac and no third party solution (I doubt that a third party can even do that)

The first scan have been done on my iPhone. There was no reaction on my iPad. I started the scan pocess on iPad too, some days after.

Has the scan on the iPad finished as well?

The syncing should start, when the people scan has finished on all devices.

People are synced among devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID.

Tonight the counter part to iOS 10 on the Mac will be released. Perhaps there are still services iniCloud that need to be activated.

Done. But as the link up the thread notes, this is already supposed to be working.

And as the answer states it is not currently implemented - the users here can not address that - only APple can so you need to discuss this with them not the user here

I swear you were correct when you wrote this message in September. I remember looking at the users guide and I swear it said that People would be synced across devices.

Today (November 28, 2016) the users guide says: Note: People identified in the People album aren’t synced across devices. The People feature isn’t available on iPhone 5."

IMHO People in the People album should be synchronized. If my 32,000+ photos are synced (and my albums) on my devices the People contained in these photos should be synced - or at least I should be given that option.

Indeed. I wish Apple would have fixed the syncing instead of the user guide.

I am afraid, it is a legal problem, because of the many complaints about people names stored in iCloud.

That's a good insight as to the potential reasoning, but I'm terribly disappointed. Between this, the elimination of music star ratings in iOS, and the shortcomings of iCloud music library, I've become increasingly disenchanted with Apple in 2016.
